7. CONCLUSION
Ministry of Health has been monitoring the activities of
optometry practitioners since the
beginning of the enforced Optical Act 1991 through various
means such as surprise visits
and check-up to the optical premises by the enforcement officer.
Therefore, the other
benefit of the Photo Name Certificate is through a self-regulation
and awareness whereby
the public will be aware of the status of the optometry practitioners
and their scope of
practice. In conclusion, there are only two groups of practitioners
whom are allowed to
practice contact lenses in Malaysia and they are expected
to deliver the important and
foremost service which is the regular eye check-up. They are
the Registered
Optometrists and the Registered Opticians with Contact Lens
Permit. In order for an
optician to hold the Contact Lens Permit, an oral and practical
examination will be held
by the MOC before they are given the license to practice.
