SUMMARY OF PRESS STATEMENT FOR THE LAUNCHING OF PHOTO
NAME CERTIFICATE TO THE REGISTERED PRIVATE OPTOMETRY
PRACTITIONERS (OPTOMETRISTS AND OPTICIANS) IN MALAYSIA
Photo Name Certificate (PNC) will be issued by the Malaysian
Optical Council,
Ministry of Health annually effective 7th of April 2006 to
all registered private
optometry practitioners holding a current annual practicing
certificate in
Malaysia.
These new initiatives will eventually address certain issues:
1. There is an increased incidence of the corneal infiltrative
complications associated with contact lens wear. The contact
lens
wearer would be given the opportunity to choose from various
registered contact lens practitioners therefore commanding
a self-
regulation.
2. The increase cases of fungal keratitis corneal infection
related to
the contact lens solution. The contact lens wearer not only
should buy from the approved contact lens practitioners, but
should have gone through a comprehensive eye examination
before and after wearing the contact lens. |
