President Welcoming Speech

On behalf of the Association of Malaysian Optometrists (AMO) I would like to invite you to the 3rd Asean Optometric Conference which will be held at the Royale Bintang Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 7 & 8 March 2010. The Theme of this conference is " Speciality Ophthalmic Practice" and there are many reasons why you should attend this Conference. They include:

Great Speakers and Topics: We have invited many prominent researchers and clinicians to share with you their expertise on Orthokeratology, Speciality Contact Lens, Primary Eye Care, Good Practice Management etc. Speakers such as Prof. Brien Holden, Prof. Patrick Caroline, John Mountford, Prof. Desmond Fonn, Prof. Azrin are all very well-known optometrists among us.

Excellent Wet Labs, Workshops and Certifications: We designed a series of these programmes conducted by all the "Gurus" and we also have two leading ortho-k designers on BE and CRT to do certification to delegates who are keen to fit those lenses.

Joint Conference with Singapore's Associations: This is the first time that this Conference is jointly organised by five associations namely Association of Malaysian Optometrists (AMO), Malaysian Academy of Optometry, Singapore Optometric Association (SOA),  Singapore Contact Lens Society and Orthokeratology Society of Singapore. AMO would certainly like to see Associations of both countries to jointly organise more of such international conferences in the future.

Launching of Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) in Malaysia: This is the opportunity for eye care practitioners to contribute to the poor and needy. Through OGS, we can help them by participating in this global fund-raising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive errors.

Once again our Exco and the Academy team have been working hard to make this upcoming Conference a success. We would definitely like to see you at the Conference.
Thank You!

Tan Thok Chuan
President
Association of Malaysian Optometrists
